Rent a Room Scheme
If you rent out a room or rooms in your home, the income you generate is exempt from income tax, provided it does not exceed €10,000. If two parties are renting the room/rooms the relief is divided between the two.
One cannot get the relief if renting a room to a son or daughter.
No mortgage lenders will take this extra income into consideration when assessing a mortgage application.
